Baking soda at night before bed for Heartburn/GERD
My Symptoms
I was having heartburn every night when I would go to bed. It would keep me up at night with severe symptoms of pain and discomfort.
My Hypothesis
Baking soda is an over-the-counter food grade acid buffer. My hypothesis was that by drinking baking soda in water, I would buffer my stomach acid and have fewer symptoms of heartburn.
What I Tried
Baking soda at night before bed
I took 1/4th teaspoon of baking soda in 6 oz of water, 30 minutes before bed, for 5 days.
Results

I was miserable every night due to heartburn. I was having problems sleeping due to the constant reflux. I was very unhappy.
After
9/10
Excellent
I noticed immediate improvement in my symptoms as soon as I took the baking soda. The relief is almost immediate, but I also noticed that over five days my need for baking soda went down as my heartburn was improving naturally. I still occasionally take it, but I do not need it every night.
Timeline to Improvement
5 days - The relief from heartburn is immediate after taking bacon soda, but I took it for five nights in a row with significant long-term improvement in my heartburn symptoms.
