Magnesium Supplementation for Primary Insomnia in Elderly
Symptoms Studied
Trouble falling asleep, waking up too early, and not feeling rested. Common in older adults.

Magnesium helps the brain relax and may improve sleep by boosting natural sleep hormones.
Intervention Tested
Magnesium (elemental)
500mg elemental magnesium daily (as magnesium oxide), taken once daily
Study Results
Before Treatment
Trouble sleeping most nights, low energy during the day, taking a long time to fall asleep.
After Treatment
Fell asleep faster, slept longer, and felt more rested. Sleep hormone levels improved.
Timeline to Improvement
Improvements observed by week 4, with continued improvement through week 8
