Apple Cider Vinegar for Blood Sugar Control in Type 2 Diabetes

Symptoms Studied

Elevated blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes, including high fasting glucose, elevated HbA1c, and blood sugar spikes after meals.

Research Hypothesis

Acetic acid in vinegar may improve insulin sensitivity and slow carbohydrate digestion, helping to moderate blood sugar responses.

Intervention Tested

Apple Cider Vinegar

30ml (2 tablespoons) apple cider vinegar daily, taken with meals

Duration: 8 weeks

Study Results

Before Treatment

Adults with type 2 diabetes, elevated fasting blood glucose, and HbA1c levels indicating suboptimal blood sugar control.

After Treatment

Fasting blood glucose decreased significantly in the vinegar group. HbA1c levels showed significant improvement compared to control. LDL cholesterol also decreased.

Side Effects

Generally well-tolerated. Should be diluted to protect tooth enamel. May cause GI discomfort if taken undiluted.
